About Simran
Hi, I'm Simran Kaur — a Toronto-based food writer and the person behind Simran's Food Blog. I write honest, no-nonsense reviews of the food most Canadians actually eat: chain restaurants, budget pizza, delivery apps, and the local spots that deserve way more attention.
How I Got Here
I grew up in Brampton, Ontario, in a Punjabi family where food was always the centre of everything. My mom's cooking set a high bar early, and I spent a lot of my childhood eating my way through the incredible South Asian food scene in Peel Region. But I also ate a lot of chain pizza, fast food, and whatever was cheapest on a student budget — and I paid attention to all of it.
I studied journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and during my time there I noticed something that bugged me: food media in Canada was almost entirely focused on fine dining and trendy restaurants. Nobody was seriously reviewing the places where most people actually eat. Nobody was writing about whether Domino's had gotten better, or which pizza chain gave you the most food for the least money, or whether that new Popeyes was worth the lineup.
So I started writing those reviews myself. First on social media, then on a blog, and eventually as the site you're reading now. The response was immediate — it turns out a lot of people want honest opinions about everyday food, not just $200 tasting menus.
What I Write About
I focus on food that's accessible. Chain restaurants, fast food, delivery platforms, budget grocery finds, and the local gems that fly under the radar. I review from the perspective of a regular person spending their own money — because that's exactly what I am.
My reviews are honest. If something is bad, I say so. If a $5 pizza from a chain is genuinely satisfying, I say that too. I don't believe in food snobbery, and I don't believe that expensive automatically means better. Good food is good food, regardless of where it comes from.
How This Blog Makes Money
Transparency matters to me, so here's exactly how Simran's Food Blog generates revenue.
I earn money through affiliate partnerships with food delivery platforms and ordering services. When I write guides about how to save money on pizza delivery, or review a chain's online ordering experience, I sometimes include links to those platforms. If you use those links to place an order or sign up for a service, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
I also run ads on the site to reach more readers who can benefit from my money-saving guides and honest reviews. The advertising revenue helps me invest in more reviews, cover more restaurants, and keep the blog running.
What I don't do is accept payment for positive reviews. No chain or restaurant has ever paid me to write a favourable review, and none ever will. My opinions are my own, always.
Advertiser Disclosure
Simran's Food Blog is supported by affiliate partnerships with food delivery platforms. Here's how it works: I write honest food reviews and money-saving guides. Readers discover my content and find my tips useful. When readers use my ordering links and recommendations, I earn a small affiliate commission. I reinvest that revenue into writing more reviews and covering more restaurants across Canada. This model allows me to keep the blog free and independent while providing genuine value to readers.
